Case Studies

The quality and long term value of a product is determined not only by its design, but also how it is produced. PPD Tech is uniquely positioned to offer creative and cost effective support from design to process development and validation. We know that the details are important, whether it is the gate location or how a given material will behave under different conditions. While most projects start from concept, we will also work with programs that are in need of troubleshooting and improvements. Structured Problem solving tools, such as FMEA, are used as appropriate. While designs are typically developed in Solidworks, all major CAD systems can be accommodated.

These samples of recent projects help to illustrate PPD Tech’s capabilities:

	Medication Control System

	The product is a pill dispensing system, to ensure security and patient adherence. The project included design of the electromechanical dispenser, user interface, assembly of electronics, hinges and a secure locking system. Support provided from industrial and mechanical design through prototypes and debugging phases.

	Liquid storage and dispensing package

	We provided a series of designs, based on a request to develop product concepts based on Injection Molding, Blow Molding and Thermoforming. Other critical proprietary criteria were also considered. The deliverable included detailed functional analysis, advantages and disadvantages of each design option and our recommendations on the best product.

	Biopolymers in Durable Goods; Nissei’s N-PLAJet Technology

	PPD Tech has partnered with a team of Japanese companies in offering technology for the mass production of biopolymer durable goods. We provide expertise in product design, mold design and the injection molding of PLA, the sugar based and compostable polymer. We also offer the option of MuCell microcellular foam molding of PLA, which reduces material cost and provides properties unique to this advanced technology.

	Storage Container Latching System

Our client needed to add a set of locking latches to an existing family of storage containers. Criteria: Fit all existing sizes, easy to assemble, able to lift the container and lock the lid and not interfere with shipping stacked containers. We offered 5 versions for market testing and then provided a final detailed design for the final selected version.
	Power Strip

PPD Tech developed a Charger/Power Strip based on our client’s patented concepts, for a specific industry application, that included USB charging ports. We provided a range of aesthetic and functional design alternatives, along with comprehensive costing information and sourcing plan.
